Digital Engineering Technology & Innovation (DETI)
Digital Engineering Technology & Innovation (DETI) Transforming engineering for the future Encouraging diversity and inclusivity, we want to inspire the next generation of engineers and the creative opportunities that engineering offers to solve global problems and bring about real change. Net-zero emission legislation is changing our future - everything we make will need to be completely re-imagined and re-engineered to meet these targets. Digital technologies will transform the way engineers operate to meet new product demands. Industry requires new skills and digital test beds, from exploring the best tools to use, the technologies to invest in, to exploiting value from vast quantities of data generated through the product lifecycle. The digital revolution is changing the way we live, work and learn. Our Skills programme will ensure the current and future workforce is digital-ready.

Ethical Careers Event
Issues such as the environment and equality are important to everyone, especially young people who are just starting out in the world. It can feel like these concerns are a barrier to developing a career in certain subjects or that opportunities are closed to people from certain backgrounds. This is particularly true for hard to reach schools in rural or socially deprived locations. We want to show that this needn’t be the case and, along with some the best businesses and professionals in the country, inspire and help pupils to aim for whatever they would LiketoBe. Enjoy our first ethical careers event and take part by watching our debates and asking questions to our panellists in the forum above.

Go4SET
Go4SET links teams of six Year 8/9 (England) and S2 (Scotland) pupils with employers and universities to offer a 10 week Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Project. The UK needs to increase the number of pupils pursuing careers in Science, Engineering and Technology. Support from Industry and business is sought for this initiative and can help to make an important contribution to the future of STEM through inspiring pupils to become involved at this key stage in their education. Work-related learning within an industry and enterprise context is at the core of the Go4SET experience. Research has shown that the exposure of younger age groups to STEM related employers, encourages more students to choose post-16 courses in these subject areas, eventually leading to the study of STEM degrees at university. LettUs Grow
LettUs Grow was founded in 2015 to tackle some of the greatest challenges facing the world today: CO2 emissions, waste, ecosystem collapse and food security. Humanity must increase food production by 70% to feed nearly 10 billion people by 2050. We must achieve this with 25% less farmland, degraded soils and in an ever more unstable climate. Our existing methods of agriculture will not be enough to feed ourselves. Additionally, the majority of our ‘fresh’ produce is imported out of season, often travelling hundreds of miles to reach our plates. Lengthy supply chains result in a colossal environmental impact - every year 900,000 tonnes of food is wasted in supply chains in the UK alone, before even reaching our plates. A new generation of indoor agriculture companies is addressing this systemic problem by establishing localised indoor farms in and around cities, improving local food security and reducing food waste. However, many of these farms are having difficulty scaling to compete with traditional agriculture. That’s where we come in… LettUs Grow is a diverse team of caring, environmentally-conscious plant scientists, developers, creatives, engineers and business whizzes. Sustainability is at our core. We are working towards B-Corp status and have embedded the triple-bottom-line into our founding documents. We believe that by empowering anyone to grow food sustainably and close to home, we can tackle some of these issues head-on. Our novel technology represents a step-change for indoor farms. We design modular, aeroponic irrigation and intelligent control technology to improve the efficiency, sustainability and ROI of indoor farming. Our systems are nozzle free, easy to clean, completely automatable and can be run without the need for pesticides. This patent-pending system dramatically reduces the operational cost of indoor agriculture, whilst delivering an average of a 70% increase in growth rate across a range of crop species compared to hydroponics. We enable indoor farms, of any size, to reach profitability that would not have been previously viable - enabling this environmentally efficient industry to scale globally.
